The sustainable home of the future, made by nature, for nature
Welcome to GrindHeim
GrindHeim is a new kind of living environment, where beauty, sustainability, and community come together in a regenerative microhouse cluster. Rooted in Nordic tradition and shaped by permaculture principles, we build homes, and lifestyles, in harmony with nature.

Our Vision and mission
GrindHeim came to be out of the need to do things differently.
Frustration with resource use, waste and energy consumption in traditional construction along with a lack of affordable, sustainable, age-friendly homes inspired May-Lise Talgø to build her first house of (locally produced) straw, clay and wood.

Turning point
This project evolved into GrindHeim: connecting material selection, construction methods and organization into one holistic model.
Our Mission
-
Promote a new way of building sustainable, social homes and communities.
-
Facilitate a melting point between innovation and tradition.
-
Transforming building methods and systems.
Inspired by the Norwegian "Klyngetun"
A cluster farm is a traditional, densely built collection of buildings from several different farms that are located close together around a common courtyard. This form of housing was particularly widespread in the coastal and fjord regions of Western Norway from Lindesnes to Romsdal until the mid-19th century.
Historical background Plot mix: Cluster farms arose because the land was divided into many small plots (pieces of land). Each farmer owned scattered plots of land among each other so that everyone would get a fair share of both good and bad land. Land Exchange Act:
In the 19th century, new laws led to the land being collected into larger, contiguous pieces. Many cluster farms were then dissolved because the farmers moved their houses to their new properties. Cooperation: The houses were closely, often irregularly placed in the steep terrain to save on the valuable arable land. This required extremely close cooperation between neighbors in everyday life.

Rebuilding the Future with Hempcrete
Reduced COâ‚‚ emission
Transfers air
Fire resistant
No extra insulation
Renewable, biodegradable, circular, and versatile.
Hempcrete is at the heart of our sustainable construction method. It’s breathable, carbon-negative, non-toxic, and ideal for healthy indoor climates. Combined with traditional grindbygg craftsmanship and modern design, this creates homes that are both rooted and resilient.
